Cathleen Dyer MEd CCC
THERAPIST
Cathleen believes we are all born with an instinctive need to connect, and that we do this by learning to be in relationship with ourselves, our environment and each other very early on in life. When there is trauma, depression, anxiety or any stress that challenges us, we access those early lessons and whatever resources we've come to know. Their use therefore becomes habitual and in time, they become an automatic way of responding to stress – whether it is healthy or not. We carry on in this mode until it does not work for us anymore, and then only seek out other ways of responding. This step takes being conscious of the fact that we want to change.
Cathleen's practice is primarily informed by two disciplines: the neurobiology of attachment and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. These two subjects combine to provide an integrated understanding of experience, awareness of that experience, and the process that we can undertake to achieve the shifts in perspective that we desire. Cathleen applies this to her work with addiction issues, as well as with a variety of other life challenges.
